Free tools for launch monitor golfers

Every tool here is free, needs no account, and runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you paste, pick or type is uploaded anywhere. They are deterministic tools, not chatbots: the same numbers in always give the same answer out, and every benchmark comes from a table we can point at.

They come from the same place Fore-ward Thinking's coaching does. The decode tool and the wedge chart read the very same benchmark table the coach reads, so the two can never tell you different things about the same shot.

Decode your launch monitor numbers

Paste a CSV export and get a plain English read of smash factor, spin, launch, and descent against well struck windows. Tell it your lofts and it reads a strong lofted set against the right window instead of the number stamped on the sole. Tell it your device and it refuses to grade a number your device only estimated.

Which of your launch monitor numbers are real?

Pick your launch monitor, your setup, and your software. See which numbers it measures, which it computes, which it models, and which it never produces, with the maker's own accuracy figures where they publish any. Of fifteen setups, only one maker publishes real numbers.

Build your wedge yardage chart

Enter what each wedge carries on a full, half, and finesse swing and get your matrix back, with a printable card for the bag. It flags any two numbers too close to tell apart, and tells you whether that flag came from scatter you measured or from a stated assumption. Then Call The Number asks for a random carry from inside your own band and scores ten of them.

Check your golf club gapping

Import a launch monitor session or type your carries in, and get your gaps judged against your own carry scatter instead of a fixed 10 to 15 yards. It finds the yardages nothing in your bag covers and the ones three clubs are fighting over, and it restates your irons on a classic loft basis, because the club stamped 7 runs from 28 to 35 degrees depending on whose set it is.

Why these first

A benchmark is only worth comparing against a number that was actually observed, and a benchmark table is only worth reading if it matches the club in your hands. Those are the two ways a launch monitor read goes wrong before anybody talks about swings, so they are the first two tools here. The wedge chart is the other half of the same idea: the numbers that change your score fastest are the ones you measured yourself.

What these tools cannot do

They read one session and forget it. They cannot tell you whether Tuesday's fix held on Saturday, which miss is typical for you, or whether today's number is new or normal. That takes memory across sessions, which is what the coaching side of Fore-ward Thinking is for. There is a free start with 3 messages and no card, if you want to see what that looks like.
